So savvy. That’s Union House.
A gentrified pub space downstairs serving easy going yet polished food pumps with energy from noon til night, with an exuberant crowd on the weekend evenings. And for those that relish good conversation, there is a more sedate dining room upstairs for full table service. Both are working off a very satisfying menu that elevates the pub meal to 5 star quality. The Rooftop Bar is also a great place to be when melbourne’s weather is kind.
We settled into a corner table by the window for a lovely work lunch.
Little globes of crunchy croquettes with creamy cauliflower centre were the perfect mouthful.
Luxuriously soft, smoky eggplant in creamy tahini with pita crisps was, oh so moreish.
Truly crisp skinned duck confit over a wedge of roasted eggplant with kale and pecans, would please every duck lover.
Perfectly cooked barramundi with crisped potatoes, melting leek and a tangy, mustardy, herby ravigote sauce takes fish and chips to a whole new level.
There are steaks, burgers and roasts, all with the signature Union House twist. Tuesday night is BBQ Chook night and Thursdays you can pop in for Beef & Rosemary Pies, as well as a Meat Raffle!
It may be the pubby theme that gives Union House its unifying casual appeal, but the food, and the accompanying wine list, is far more sophisticated than that.
