More like a Melbourne institution than a restaurant, the Carlton Wine Room has always been an urban haven for the wine connoisseur. Now, newly refurbished, it’s like a breath of fresh air has swept in.
The ever-changing 100 wine long list, with offerings from wine regions around the world, requires some studying, but it’s also worth chatting to the waiter about the Staff choice of the day if you are feeling adventurous.
A very succinct menu is really there to support the wine selection but offers choice seafood, meats and pasta with a seasonal focus, and the knowledgeable yet approachable staff are very attuned to helping you find that perfect match.
For us, we landed on a Linguine in Mushroom Parmesan Cream with a glass of French Burgundy by ninth generation winemakers, Lucien Muzard & Fils, which was a most agreeable partnership for a late supper.
On this Friday night, the place was a buzz with full tables swirling with good conversation and it was a perfect setting to settle in with a mate for that long overdue catch up.
Cheers!
