Chocolate Heart Cookies

Crisp chocolatey biscuits that are just waiting to be inscribed for someone you love!

Ingredients

  • 150g butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup caster sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 3/4 cup plain flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • Melted dark chocolate, for piping

Method

Cream the butter, sugar and vanilla together until light and creamy. Add egg and beat well. Sift flour, cocoa and baking powder onto the surface and fold in. Knead lightly until smooth. Roll into a round, flatten slightly, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15 minutes-1 hour. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 2mm thickness and cut into shapes using a heart shaped cutter. Arrange on a baking tray and bake at 200°C for 10 minutes until lightly golden. Remove onto a wire rack to cool. Decorate with piped melted chocolate with the inscription of your choice. Refrigerate until chocolate sets and store in an airtight container.
